Dear Mr. Clarke
I recently became aware of the assistance The Sport Legends Trust provide to ex rugby players who are in financial need. My father, Dawie Ackermann, was a Springbok during the 50′s but passed away in 1970 and my mother never remarried.
She has been struggling with her health the last couple of years and is currently in financial need. I am a widow as well and find it very difficult to assist her financially. Is it in any way possible to apply for financial aid from the Trust and if so what is the procedure?
We will greatly appreciate any help you can provide
Dalou Voster

SLT organised the Dawie Ackerman Memorial golf day in Oct 2004 in aid of Dawie’s family. The necessary assistance will be passed on to Dawie’s family to assist their financial burdens.
James Starke a Springbok team mate of Dawie paid a glowing tribute to his deceased friend at the Golf day in honour of the Sporting Legends. SLT salutes your Mr. Starke.

En weereens baie dankie vir julle bydrae, ongeag die bedrag – dis baie nice van julle en nog meer welkom!
Goed gaan,

Dear BossieI came across your Sport Legends site today with the wonderful story about the family of Dawie Ackermann. For some time now I have been looking for information on Dawie Ackermann and thought that as he sadly died in 1970 that there was no way to get this information, I was even unsure if he had any family at the time.
Dawie toured New Zealand in 1956 with the Springboks and there is some history with him and my family from that visit. I am a kiwi living in Australia, but I am still very much an All Blacks supporter, whereas my kids swing between the All Blacks and the Wallabies, depending on who is playing!
Can you please pass on my details to Dalou Voster and if she would like to make contact with me I would very much appreciate it.
Kind Regards
Nigel Gillions
