He was cast in the Tommy Beford image of loose forwards in a game that was very different from what we see today, especially at international level.
His Test Debut on 26th April 1980 vs South America in Johannesburg.
Test rugby in those days was a far more exclusive than it is today and during the 4 years of his international career he represented the Springboks in 19 Test and 9 Tour Matches.
He will be remembered for his fearless bone crunching tackles and is widely regarded as one of the Springbok Greats.
